Preface

As an important part of the whole theoretical system，Marx’s ideology theory has always been paid attention to by the academic circles at home and abroad. Since the 1970s，the research focus of Western scholars has experienced changes from criticism to construction and transcendence，which is consistent with the inherent logic approach of Marx’s ideology theory. In China，this study presents multiple trends in more than twenty years since 1990s，including research horizon from single to multidimensional，research methodology from “Return to Marx” to concern about the reality，focus of research from critical logic to constructive logic and transcendental logic. While on the whole，due to the late start，until now there is still a problem of over-interpretation of the critical logic in the research of Marx’s ideology theory in domestic academe. Ideology has often been regarded as a derogatory term，Marx’s ideology theory has been simply interpreted as critical theory simultaneously，therefore the theoretical foundation of socialist ideological construction has been shrouded in mist. Complying with its own development logic，conforming to the trend of the times，adhering to the principle of unity of history and logic，it is important to give an comprehensive and systematic exposition to the inherent logic process of Marx’s ideology theory，which include critical logic，construction logic and transcendental logic. This is a theoretical clarification work which traces the source and uncovers the truth，as well as a theory development work which let Marx’s ideology theory revitalize in the contemporary context.

This book seeks to achieve four theoretical purposes through meticulous text interpretation of the source and flow of Marx’s ideology theory. Firstly，to identify the triple logic of Marx’s ideology theory，including critical logic，construction logic and transcendental logic. Secondly，to clarify the inherent association between some major trends in ideology in 20th century and the triple logic in Marx’s ideology theory. Thirdly，to reproduce the generation process，basic connotation and evolution way of the triple logic concretely and historically. Fourthly，to prove that due to the existence of the above three logic，Marx’s ideology theory not only promotes critical theory of ideology to reach the principle height，but also provides a thought gene for the development of ideology construction theory，even occupies the commanding point of ideology transcendence theory.

This book can be divided into three parts：introduction，body and conclusion. Introduction：Clarification of the Internal Logic and Approach of Marx’s Ideology Theory. It consists of three parts as follows. The first part clarifies the reasons，theoretical value and practical significance of selecting this topic. The second part analyses and reviews the current research status of this topic at home and abroad comprehensively. The third part explains the main issues to be solved，research ideas，research methods and innovations.

The body part consists of five chapters. The title of the first chapter is Dual Background of the Initiation of Marx’s Ideology Theory. This chapter clarifies the background of social history and idea history of the birth of this theory. On the background of social history，it mainly refers to the Industrial Revolution，the Enlightenment and the French Revolution from economical，political and cultural perspectives. On the background of idea history，it discusses ideological origin of the birth of Marx’s ideology theory from four aspects，namely，French Materialism，German Consciousness Philosophy，Young Hegelian Religious Criticism and Utopian Socialist.

The title of the second chapter is Generation History of Marx’s Ideology Theory. This chapter aims to clarify the generation process of the triple logic in Marx’s ideology theory. It begins with an explanation on generation history of the critical logic of Marx’s ideology theory，which can be divided into four stages，including the stage of being bound by an ideological swaddling and critique orientation，the stage of the begining of an ideological break and implicit criticism，the stage of preliminary formation of ideological criticism theory and the stage of formal formation of ideological criticism theory. On the basis of clarifying generation history of the critical logic of Marx’s ideology theory，briefly analyzes the generation process and basic connotation of the other two logic，namely constructive logic and transcendental logic，which occur at the same time.

The third，fourth and fifth chapters analyze the triple logic and their evolution respectively，as well as their association with several major ideological thoughts in 20th century. The title of the third chapter is Expansion and Deepening of Marx’s Theory of Critical Ideology. This chapter analyzes the expanding process of the critical logic in Marx’s Ideology Theory，as well as its association with the theory of ideological criticism in 20th century. Firstly，analyzes Marx’s critique process on bourgeois political ideology and economic ideology after the German Ideology，thereby the review to the entire development process of Marx’s theory of critical ideology has been completed. Secondly，sorts the basic content of the Frankfurt School ideology critique in 20th century. On this basis，analyzes their development to Marx’s theory of critical ideology and their theoretical misunderstandings.

The title of chapter four is Establishment and Development of Construction Logic of Marx’s Ideology Theory. This chapter analyzes evolution process of the construction logic in Marx’s ideology theory，as well as its association with the theory of ideological revolution in 20th century. Firstly，identifies the internal construction logic in Marx’s ideology theory by analyzing the academic differences on Marx’s concept of ideology in academic circle at home and abroad. Then sorts the preliminary interpretation on this logic by Engels. Secondly，reviews development of the construction logic in ideology theory after Marx in two paths，one is the path of historical materialism，the other is the path of Western Marxism. On the forward path，Labriola，Plekhanov and Lenin have made individual contributions，which inspired the theory of ideological revolution in 20th century. On the later path，the practical potential of the construction logic of Marx’s ideology theory has been excavated by Gramsci and Althusser.

The title of chapter five is Transcendental logic of Marx’s Ideology Theory and its Contemporary Controversy. This chapter analyzes the thought connotation of Marx’s ideological transcendence，as well as its relationship and difference with the theory of the end of ideology and the theory of cultural ideology in 20th century. Firstly，this chapter analyzes Marx’s theory of ideological transcendence in his research results of philosophy，political sociology and political economics. Secondly，recounts and analyzes the theoretical origin，evolution course and spiritual essence of the theory of the end of ideology. Thirdly，explores cultural connotation of Marx’s concept of ideology，which has been displayed by the theory of cultural ideology in 20th century，based on new historical conditions.

The conclusion points out the value of grasping the logic process of Marx’s ideology theory for promoting construction of socialist ideology in contemporary China. Taking into account the important position of Marx’s ideology theory in the development history of ideology theory，it is a basic theoretical work to sort out the logical process of Marx’s ideology theory，which will help to truly uphold and develop Marxism. Taking into account the extreme importance of ideological work，clarifying the logical way of Marx’s ideology theory will help to establish theoretical basis for the construction of socialist ideology. Concretely speaking，it is to establish a theoretical basis for criticizing bourgeois ideology and socialist ideology，constructing socialist ideology，as well as grasping historical position and forward direction of socialist ideology.
