Study on the Education and Affect Factors of Disabled Children Aged 6~18 in Guangzhou and Dongying City

[Abstract]Objective To explore the education condition of disabled children aged 6~18 in Guangzhou and Dongying city and its affect factors.Methods A census was carried among disabled children aged 6~18 in Guangzhou and Dongying city.Using a self-designed questionnaire,face to face interviews were taken to collect the basic information and the education condition of disabled children.Results 1611 children with disabilities were interviewed in this census.There were 1537 children that responsed to“education condition”,458 ( 29.8%) chose“never attended school”,78 ( 5.1%) chose“pre-school education”,688 ( 44.8%) chose“normal education”and 313 ( 20.4%) chose“special education”.There were 1310 children responsed to“difficulties in education”,the propotion of“too expensive”,“less of special institutes”,“far from home”,“worring about discrimination”and“others”is 378 ( 28.9%),347 ( 26.5%),311 ( 23.7%),230 ( 17.6%) and 214 ( 16.3%) sequentially.Types of disability,income of households,the social assistances,cities and household nature are the affect factors of education among disabled children.Conclusion The condition of education is not satisfictory.In order to make more disabled children have proper education,we should build better education environment in rural area,improve their income level and offer disabled children social assistant.
