TRACKING AND REPORTING PROJECT STATUS

Project status tracking and reporting is the final essential element of pragmatic project management. Stepping back from the day-to-day management of the project, project managers assess the project's status against schedule, scope, and cost expectations outlined in the project plan, determine how well things are going, and make adjustments as necessary.

Project status reports are often provided to the project sponsor and other stakeholders. In this sense, the status report is an excellent communications tool. The project manager can present the report either in a formal, written format for large, complex projects or more informally for small projects.
