Dedication

This book is dedicated to John Moseley (1945–2005). John was my team leader when I worked as a software engineer on my first project at Hughes Aircraft Company. It was 1977. John decided to leave the defense industry in pursuit of his dream of operating his own business. As he was leaving, he recommended to management that I take over as the team leader of the 12-person software development team. Thus began my journey down the path of project management that has resulted in this book and experience I have tried to share with you. If you find some useful ideas and knowledge in this book it is due, in part, to John’s faith in me to lead his team onward while he followed his dream.

We remained best friends until the end.
