The Historical Study on the Olympic Vision Images
The dissertation explores significantly the occurrence,development,evo-lution cause,and rule of the Olympic vision images as well as its relationship with Olympic Movement and art & design.
The earliest Olympic images can be traced back to the ancient Greek O-lympic Games,during which the athletes'images and the scenes of the Olym-pic games were reflected through the sculpture and bottle pictures. Coming a-long with the gradual growth of the Olympic idea system,the people's further understanding on the Olympic movement,adapting to the needs of the devel-opment of Olympic activities,the modern Olympic vision images have been perfected under the influence of the modern art & design.
The occurrence,development,and evolution of the Olympic vision ima-ges are divided into four stages. From the 1896 Greece Olympics to the 1908 London Olympics,that such flat design productions as the cover of the Olym-pics report and sport commercial poster arose reflected the occurrence of the Olympic vision images. From the 1912 Stockholm to the 1960 London Olym-pics,many vision images,such as the symbol of the Olympic five rings,the Olympic propagandistic pictures,the Olympic logo,competition court pic-tures,sport figures,were given birth to constantly. Form the 1960 Tokyo O-lympics to the 1980 Moscow Olympics,with the further explanation and spread of the direction idea of the Olympic movement,and with the extension of the size and scale of the Olympic activities,the Olympic vision images en-tered the united and systematic stage under the influence of the post-modern art & design and the idea of systematic design. The Olympic vision images were mainly regarded as the symbols of the Olympic movement before com-mercialization. What they stressed was sigh and symbol function,and what they tried for was vision shock and propagandistic effect. From the 1984 Los Angeles to the present,the Olympic vision images,exerting the double profits of logo and brand,symbolized their immature. The Olympic vision images,as the brand of the Olympic brand,are the combination of the inner economic power image and outer cultural affixation images.
The occurrence and development of the Olympic vision images has pro-longed effects on the Olympic movement and art&design. They are the outer indication of the connotation of the Olympic movement,the inheritance of the Olympic humanistic tradition from the ancient to the present,and the whole integration and art expression of the Olympic idea and action. The Olympic vision images represent the spirits of the Olympic movement,provide the golden opportunities for the host countries and regions to show their national images and design power. And meanwhile,they provide the huge humanistic economic market for the Olympic movement.
Only when adhering to the mission of the Olympic movement,maintai-ning the consistence between its activities and mission,can the Olympic movement create the colorful and well-known Olympic vision images.
The creation of the better Olympic vision image should build specialized design teams,carry out overall programs,confirm key images,and form unit-ed and systematic overall design. These historical experiences are bound to provide the reference for the following Olympic host countries,especially for the design of the vision image of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
